The violent passages in this book struck a nerve with some readers, and although I never wanted to offend, and regret being unable to please all of the people all of the time, I don't apologize for the content of Unspeakable. It was my intention to draw a stark contrast between the evil nature of the prisoners and prisoners and the mayhem they create, and Anna, who is encapsulated in silence and innocence.
